WORKSHOP 4

April is here!

In today’s workshop we discussed hypermedia and what it was. As an exercise we were to search various sites in order to further understand what hypermedia and hypertexts are all about. I watched ‘The Are You Happy Project‘ which aims to find out what happens when the question ‘Are you happy?’ was asked to people all over the globe.

This site is known as hypermedia as it enables participation from viewers to float from video to video in order to watch what it is that captures there attention. As a visiter of this site I watch the video from Tasmania as I am from Australia and this caught my eye to find out what Australian’s thought it meant to be happy and what made them a happy Australian.

As a class we discussed that blogs are hypertexts/hypermedia because…

  • Participation: Commenting, liking, linking
  • Intertextuality: Embedded media, links beyond blog to other media sources
  • Fragmentation: Posts, categories, tags
  • Nodes: Posts
  • Technically: Immediate access, freedom of writing possibilities, code

Workshop 3 Discussion

Throughout todays workshop we discussed as a group the differences between creative commons and copyright. Together we were able to come up with a list of the following differences between the two…

Copyright:

  • Cannot be used without permission
  • Long process to obtain a licence
  • Protecting own work
  • Rigid
  • Restriction

Creative Commons:

  • Under certain circumstances you can use other peoples work
  • Licence is right in front of you
  • Sharing work
  • Flexible
  • Allowance
  • Manually put a licence on your work

Up close and personal

For all those who want to get to know me a little more I thought I’d share a part of my life with my readers. This is not relevant to my blog topic of music and pop culture entertainment but deep down I am obsessed with spending time with friends and going on little getaways therefore have created this blog post. You could say I’m a wanderer; a lover of exploring new places with friends and making memories. The long weekend spent in Echuca was definitely one to remember. 10 city kids from Melbourne filled 5 p-plater cars and headed off for the country side, leaving the gloomy sky behind.

This photo does not go with my theme of entertainment news, however I want my readers to get an inside to my own personal life and get to know me as a person. I had no specific way I wanted this image to appear apart from including me and my closest friend swimming in the lake which we bathed in over the weekend. This is purely to give my readers an insight into my life.

Jhene Aiko wows Melbourne

March 1st, American singer song writer from California, Jhene Aiko took to the stage at The Forum Melbourne. The intimate show allowed Aiko, aged 28, to share her stories with the crowd while wearing a lace bodysuit, ripped boyfriend jeans and a floral kimono. Surrounded by lanterns and a backdrop, Aiko lightly wandered around the stage, interacting with fans and invited everyone into her world.

Fans were left wanting more before Aiko returned to the stage for an encore to belt out her ultimate heartbreak anthem of ‘The Worst.’

Aiko also travelled to Sydney, Perth and Brisbane alongside upcoming soul artist from Sydney, Thandi Phoenix.

Workshop 2 discussion

What are some ways we can demonstrate network literacy on our blog?

  • Link to other people’s blogs and linking out to other sources
  • Branding and advertising
  • Allowing comments
  • Embedding images, audio and video to posts
  • Create seperate pages to express other ideas

Workshop One

Throughout the first workshop of Networked Media we discussed the goals and challenges that we plan to achieve and overcome through the semester. Some of these goals included learning to code, becoming professional and being consistent when blogging.

Some of the challenges that we discussed as a class and agreed that we may face throughout the course of this semester was building a wider audience and meeting the work expectations.

At the end of these twelve weeks I aim to have overcome these challenges and tick the goals off the list as being successfully completed!

Reading One – Blog

A blog is an online journal in which the writer controls there online identity. It consists of a title, date, time and name of the author publishing the post. There is no word limit set to a blog post however it is preferred by readers to read a short blog post. Bloggers have the opportunity to keep readers engaged by limiting the word count of each blog post by linking the readers to another site where they are able to explore to a greater depth to there own will, what it is the writer is trying to explaining in there post.

A blog is a necessary tool for teaching as it allows students to participate and express their own interests while using the techniques of blogging. By sharing and linking each other to different blogs, students are exposed to a numerous amount of writing styles and tend to pick up new skills along the way when reading work that is of a higher standard; as well as knowing what a post of a lower standard would appear to look and sound like.

Blogs nowadays are another step in the recruitment process as employers may decide to take the time to discover who the candidate is by reading through the blog and getting to know them better through the online persona in which they have created and developed over time.

Week One

It has been a successful week for all students at RMIT university as we have made it to the end of week one after a speedy 3 month summer break; although many students, including myself, may have encounter difficulties when keeping concentrated and focused. It is safe to say that we all survived and definitely looking forward to the coming weeks ahead of the rest of the semester!
