WORKSHOP 4

April is here!

In today’s workshop we discussed hypermedia and what it was. As an exercise we were to search various sites in order to further understand what hypermedia and hypertexts are all about. I watched ‘The Are You Happy Project‘ which aims to find out what happens when the question ‘Are you happy?’ was asked to people all over the globe.

This site is known as hypermedia as it enables participation from viewers to float from video to video in order to watch what it is that captures there attention. As a visiter of this site I watch the video from Tasmania as I am from Australia and this caught my eye to find out what Australian’s thought it meant to be happy and what made them a happy Australian.

As a class we discussed that blogs are hypertexts/hypermedia because…

  • Participation: Commenting, liking, linking
  • Intertextuality: Embedded media, links beyond blog to other media sources
  • Fragmentation: Posts, categories, tags
  • Nodes: Posts
  • Technically: Immediate access, freedom of writing possibilities, code
